Compliance Specialist

Our client in the insurance space is looking for a Compliance Specialist.

The job purpose is to maintain and develop the compliance function within the company and be responsible for the effective implementation and monitoring of all legislative requirements, provide guidance and assist in responding to complex complaints, responding to compliance enquiries (both internal and external), compliance training, submission of statutory returns and any other compliance-related matters.

Scope of Responsibility:              

•            Active participant in the Ex-gratia and Claims Escalation Committees.

•            Effective timeous and professional communication with both internal and external stakeholders.

  •        Respond to queries as per set standards and by the principles of TCF.

•            Take full responsibility for developing and/or reviews of company policies, policy renewals, policy wording, and processes, including system and data requirements, that affect the Compliance function.

•            Maintain awareness of regulatory framework and specific obligations within the insurance industry.

•            Maintain awareness of non-insurance regulatory framework, eg. FICA, POPIA, PAIA, etc.

•            Keep up and either implement or provide guidance on policies and procedures that need to be reviewed or implemented.

•            Provide training, if necessary, on topics relevant to the Compliance function.

•            Regularly assist management in drafting or updating update the process manuals in line with compliance obligations.

•            Compliance audits/reviews of internal departments.

•            Assist in the compiling of statutory reports to the FSCA and insurers.

•            Consults on an ongoing basis with operational managers.

•            Assist with any external audit requirements.



Qualifications: -

•            Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent

•            FAIS Compliant (RE5 & Qualification are a pre-requisite)


Skills and Experience:    

•            At least four years’ work experience in a compliance position within the insurance industry.

•            Expert knowledge of legislation applicable to the insurance industry.

•            Experience with CBR reporting will be advantageous.

•            Pays attention to detail and strives to be accurate at all times.

•            Ability to work with minimal supervision.

•            Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and to function well under pressure.

•            Interested in learning and progression.

•            Ability to take initiative with strong administration skills.

•            Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
